We all need food to live well. And unless we are producing what we eat, we depend on the food industry for our daily share of food. Naturally, food industry is a sector which has been and always will be in demand.
The food industry has a lot of important divisions under it. Agriculture, processing, retail, research and development are some of the key subgroups under it. But account management jobs are perhaps the most important part of this whole industry.
If you want to be in the account management of the food industry you need to be extremely dynamic. These jobs demand one to work well under pressure and in diverse working conditions. Naturally, only the best performers can shine in this job.
Good Interpersonal skills and a wonderful communication skill are absolutely necessary for these jobs as these qualities help in building relationships successfully. Building and maintaining a healthy relationship with various clients are the most important part of the account manager’s role.
The account manager needs to meet various clients and discuss what his company can offer to the client. He should be extremely confident and knowledgeable in about his company and its functions. Building a relationship starts with convincing the clients. The account manager has to impress and convince the clients with his wonderful presentations and break through solutions.
Like every industry the food industry also has requirement for brilliant account managers who are diplomatic, sensitive and well aware of their job. The job is a very lucrative one, but one needs to perform very well to succeed in it.
One can start as the assistant account manager for a region and with experience he can reach the level of regional account manager. National account manager and senior national account manager are the next two levels where one can reach with years of exceptional performance.
The account manager in the food industry serves as a connecting link between his company and the clients. He has to meet his targets set by the company successfully for a positive growth. On the other hand, he needs to satisfy the stated, unstated and even the latent needs of his clients.
If you want to be a successful account manager in the food industry, be mobile. You have to travel throughout the country and meet new clients every week. Find out what they are looking for and then offer them the solutions your company can provide. Satisfy all their queries and seal the deal. But the job doesn’t end here.
Get back to your client from time to time and find out if they need anything more. Try to be innovative and meet all the new challenges that you will be facing. Work with your whole team to make your company as well as your clients to earn profits.
Northern Foods, Exsurgo, Teso, Waitrose are some of the top companies in the food industry looking for account managers. If you think you have the qualities an account manager in the food industry must possess, go and join. Be extremely open and flexible and sky will be the limit for you.
I used to work on the agency side of marketing and one of the best things about that job is the creative meetings. Whether they’re internal ones or the more difficult ones with clients, the ideas and arguments come thick and fast. They’re a hotbed of creativity and can give you a great buzz, but there’s always a downside to these meetings for Account Managers.
The poor Account Manager has to somehow get all this creative lightning down into their blue note books and work out who said what, who promised what, what the budgets and deadlines are, and which parts of which concept should be taken forward. They also have to record the fact that the client hates that particular shade of blue and the fact that you need to run all concepts past at least 40 departments before it can even go the final decision maker. And all that while they are engaging in the small talk essential for a meeting, selecting the biscuits, taking a lead in the discussion of the meeting and probably giving a presentation at the same time.
With all this to do you can see that account managers aren’t making the best use of their time and concentration. After spending years getting a Marketing Degree, Account Managers are demoted to minute taking and are then tasked with producing the all important Contact Report, usually within 48 hours of the meeting.
A better use of your time
Wouldn’t their time be better spent on actually getting the marketing strategy over, conveying the creative concepts, giving a clear presentation and giving the clients some love and attention? Instead they’re making sure that they capture all the points of the meetings.
Wouldn’t it be so much better and more productive if the writing up the minutes of the meeting was left to someone else?
Who’d then write all that up in a nice tidy document, on your word template, and then email it to you in plenty of time for you to check over and then forward to your client extremely quickly, making you and your marketing agency look amazing?
